The Technology of Subtitles in Films and other Media

Účelem bakalářské práce je prozkoumat technologii titulkování. Ta je rozebrána historického, současného a budoucího hlediska. V práci jsou zmíněny i specifické způsoby využití titulků pro určité typy médií a součástí je i rozbor cílových skupin, pro které jsou titulky určeny. Kromě teoretického rozboru technologie titulkování je na závěr proveden experiment, jehož účelem je porovnat přesnost titulkování mezi strojově generovanými titulky, profesionální prací a amatérskou prací. Toho je dosaženo porovnáváním titulků ze stejných filmových scén vedle sebe v tabulkách. Výsledek výzkumu, který je odvozen na základě kritérií, zmíněných v práci, ukazuje, že profesionální titulky jsou nejspolehlivější cestou.
Comparative analysis of the communication strategies in chosen media of candidates for the presidential elections in 2023 in the second round

In this thesis, a comparative analysis of the communication strategies of the presidential candidates in the 2023 elections Ing. Andrej Babiš and arm. gen. v.v. Ing. Petr Pavel, M.A. is carried out. The work starts with a description of the election process. The AMI Digital Index 2022, which is a survey in the field of social networks, is presented. In the next chapter, the theoretical framework of the work is presented, starting with the characteristics of the examinated media. The following is a brief description of the course of presidential elections in the past. Then the process of data collection is described and the method of social network analysis is presented. The following are individual analyses of social networks. First, six analyses of Andrej Babiš's communication are presented, as well as Petr Pavel's. This is followed by a description of the most symbolic themes of the individual campaigns. The next part is devoted to the characteristics of the analysis of pre-election debates, and then the analyses themselves and their comparison are discussed. Before the very conclusion, the candidates' post-election communication processes are briefly described. Comparison of Docusoap Series depicting Childbirth in Czech and foreign Media

The thesis "Comparison of Docusoap Series depicting Childbirth in Czech and foreign Media " deals with docusoap series depicting childbirth, both from Czech and foreign production. I will take into account both the conditions and environment in which the shows were produced and the specifics of the countries in which they were filmed. In the first chapter I will deal with the definition of the docusoap genre and its current state in the Czech Republic and abroad, as well as its brief history. In the following, i.e. second chapter, I will deal with Czech programmes, while in the third chapter, foreign programmes will get their own space. I will focus on the content, the form of processing, examples of individual stories, and also the statements of the creators or participants. The fourth chapter will be devoted to the media image of childbirth as such, both in domestic and foreign media. The fifth and final chapter will then be devoted to the analysis itself, which will aim to reveal whether there are any noticeable differences in the way docusoap series on the topic of childbirth are produced in the Czech Republic and abroad, and what can be drawn from this for the docusoap genre as such.
Non-sporting Topics on TV Studios of ČT sport and TV Nova During the World Cup 2022

Bachelor thesis Non-sporting Topics on TV Studios of ČT sport and TV Nova during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 deals with non-sporting topics in the pre-match studios of ČT sport and TV Nova during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. The selected pair of media outlets represent the only owners of the broadcasting rights for the the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 in the Czech Republic. It is also a comparison of sport's broadcasting on public and commercial TV. The research is conducted during the entire course of the football championship, that is all pre-match studios of both TV stations from 20th November to 18th December 2022. The theoretical part focuses on the position of sport and football in media. It also describes selected non-sporting topics from the history of sports journalism as well as the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. The quantitative content analysis identifies and compares the total time spent debating non-sporting topics with the rest of the sports discussion. It also follows the incidence and frequency of non-sporting topics on ČT sport and TV Nova. The qualitative content analysis attempts to describe the process of these non-sporting discussions and tries to find similarities or differences in the way they are conducted.
Shifting Behaviour of Czech TV Viewers in Context of Rising VOD Platforms

Television as a medium has demonstrated dominant status since its establishment. However, the consumption of audiovisual content is shifting towards new possibilities. Digitalization has led not only to the expansion and differentiation of the television market, but also to changes in the consumption of audiovisual content and consumer habits. Television broadcasting has no longer faced competition only from other television companies, but also from the internet and streaming service providers. The aim of the thesis was to explore how the behavior of Czech viewers has changed in the context of strengthening VOD (video on demand) platforms, which allow consumers to watch audiovisual content of their own choice without time constraints. The thesis focused on answering the following research questions: How has the behavior of Czech television viewers changed in the context of strengthening VOD platforms? Why people do (or do not) own televisions? What are the reasons of why television broadcasting is (or is not) attractive? Do VOD platforms have disadvantages? What attracts viewers to using VOD platforms? Where do people get their news from? In what direction should linear television broadcasting move in the future? The bachelor thesis Women sports in Czech Television's Branky, body, vteřiny deals with representation of women sports in the main sports news programme of the Czech Television, Branky, body, vteřiny in years 2010 and 2019. On several chosen broadcasts, it investigates the amount of representation of women sports (in comparison to men sports) and its differences between years 2010 and 2019. The thesis is divided into two parts. The theoretical part, with the help of existing scientific literature, examines the topic of gender inequality and its relation to the area of sports. Furthermore, through specific examples it describes the situation of women sports in the world and the Czech Republic from the view of active sportswomen and women functionaries. Special attention is paid to the relationship between women sports and media. In the chapter Ženský sport a média, we reflect existing knowledge through scientific papers and various media research. Intergenerational comparison of reasons and motivations for not watching television

This thesis focuses on an intergenerational comparison of reasons and motivations for not watching television broadcasting. The aim of the research is to find out why people do not watch television broadcasting and what activities they substitute for this activity. Then the differences between the responses of the first target group, which includes people aged 20-30 who do not watch television broadcasting, and the responses of the second target group, which includes people aged 50-60 who do not watch television broadcasting, are compared. The theoretical part focuses on the historical background of television, mass audience, post- broadcasting age, television viewing, leisure and digital detox. The next part of the thesis discusses the methodology that was used for the research part. The practical part focuses on the categorization and interpretation of the semi-structured interviews with the respondents. The research was conducted in the spring of 2023. The data then shows a number of findings regarding not only what the respondents' main reasons for not watching television are and what they substitute for this activity. At the very end of the paper, a transcript of one of the interviews is also included to give an example of how the semi-structured interviews were conducted.
Czech sports television stations on social networks: comparison of private and public service channel

The topic of the thesis is a comparison of Czech public and commercial sports television in the presentation on social networks. The thesis aims to map the current state of social network management of domestic sports televisions, their ambitions and strategies in this dynamically expanding segment. In the diploma thesis, social networks are placed in the context of the use of their potential in the field of sports marketing and their historical development. The main part of the work is focused on defining the correct hypotheses on the basis of which quantitative research is carried out on the Facebook social network. The hypotheses are divided into three main thematic blocks, the quantity of published contributions of individual televisions, their format and thematic focus depending on the telecast of a prominent sporting event are examined in turn. In the next part, the collected data is subjected to analysis. They also aim to support interviews with important representatives of both Czech sports televisions, which are carried out for this work and which are available in the appendices of this thesis. The aim of the thesis is to find out whether the media image of Petr Kellner differed in the main news of public television Česká Televize compared to TV Nova which was owned by the businessman and then by his heirs. The thesis starts with a description of Kellner's life, business and his family. It also details his death in a helicopter crash in Alaska. Then it continues with the research. For this, both a quantitative analysis of the coverage of Kellner on both two TV stations and a qualitative framing method were used. The research showed that Nova television devoted almost twice as much airtime to inform about Kellner compared to Česká Televize. It also mentioned Kellner's philanthropic activities more often.
